Knicks may increase Amar’e Stoudemire’s minutes

Mike Woodson stated that Amar’e Stoudemire may see an uptick in playing time from the 30-minute cap that has been placed on him as the playoffs draw nearer.

Amar'e Stoudemire of the New York Knicks has been on a 30-minute cap, as recommended by the Knicks medical faculty, but may see an uptick in his minutes as the playoffs come closer, according to Mike Woodson. Via Jared Zwerling of ESPN New York:

“As we go up this road, maybe his minutes will increase, maybe when we get closer to the playoffs,” the coach said. “That’s why his minutes have got to be restricted now.”

Stoudemire has played 28 games for the Knicks since returning, all of which have been off the bench. At an average of 23.3 minutes per game, Stoudemire is already well under the minute cap that has been placed on him. However, with Rasheed Wallace out indefinitely with a foot injury, the Knicks' depth has only gotten thinner. In the meantime, the Knicks signed veteran Kenyon Martin to a second 10-day contract to help fill out their frontcourt depth.

Stoudemire is currently shooting the highest percentage of his career at 59.4 percent from the field while scoring 14.2 points per game.
