David Stern said more money is needed to make the offer to keep the Kings in Sacramento viable.
Stern's comments came in Oakland prior to Friday's game between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets.
The NBA received a bid from a group of investors wanting to keep the team in Sacramento last week, countering the bid made by Seattle businessmen Chris Hansen and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Although the counter-offer seemed promising, Stern indicated on Friday that the Sacramento offer is not financially competitive with the Seattle offer.

Sactown Royalty has complete coverage of the Kings sale While encouraging the Sacramento group to continue building its proposal, Stern said, "Unless it (the Sacramento bid) increases, it doesn't get to the state of consideration," via Antonio Gonzalez of the Associated Press.
Stern said that a bid to keep the Kings in Sacramento must be comparable to the Seattle bid and as of right now, the Sacramento bid is not, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.
Gonzalez also reported that Stern said the NBA Board of Governors will meet April 3 to discuss the Sacramento-Seattle proposals.
