Kings sale: Sacramento group will reportedly match Seattle offer

The ownership group in Sacramento is expected to match the offer that Seattle made to the Maloofs.

USA TODAY Sports

The ownership group in Sacramento currently in a bidding war with Seattle will reportedly match the offer that the Seattle group has on the table as they continue to push their efforts to keep the Sacramento Kings, reports Ryan Lillis of The Sacramento Bee.

The Maloofs placed a deadline of 5 p.m. on Friday for the Sacramento group to submit a matching offer and it appears they are prepared to do so. David Aldridge of NBA.com reports that the Maloofs are willing to give Sacramento extra time beyond the deadline, however.

This news comes on the tail of a report that indicated the Maloofs would “embrace” an equal bid from Sacramento so long as the league is satisfied with the bid being made by the Sacramento group. Sacramento’s ownership group has also grown stronger, adding former Facebook executive Chris Kelly into the mix to help build a “21st century” vision of a sports franchise.

The final vote on the future of the Kings is expected to take place in a week.
