NBA draft lottery watch: Bobcats need 2 more losses to clinch worst record

If the Bobcats lose their last two games, they will secure the worst record in the NBA and have the most ping pong balls at the 2013 NBA Draft Lottery.

USA TODAY Sports

The Charlotte Bobcats are zeroing in on the worst record in the NBA this season, and two losses in their last two games will ensure that they hold that dubious distinction. The Bobcats are currently one game worse than the Orlando Magic in the race for the most ping pong balls at the 2013 NBA Draft Lottery.

Charlotte has games remaining against the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers. Losing to the Knicks would seem like a sure bet, but New York will probably rest players since they have clinched the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Orlando will close the season against the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat. The Bulls are still jostling for playoff positioning, while the Heat will almost certainly be resting most of their key players.

There's also still a battle going on for the third-worst record in the league, as both the Cavs and Phoenix Suns hold identical 24-56 records. In addition to a game against the Bobcats, the Cavs will face the Heat, while the Suns will take on the Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets.

Here’s the full draft lottery watch:
