Kings sale: Board of Governors to take 7 days to consider recommendation

The delay in the Board of Governors’ vote on the Kings sale to Seattle is a procedural issue, as they need seven days to make a decision after receiving a recommendation from the joint relocation and finance committee.

The delay in the vote to approve the sale of the Sacramento Kings to Seattle is due to a procedural issue, as the NBA Board of Governors needs seven days to consider the recommendation from the NBA's joint relocation and finance committee, according to Ryan Lillis of The Sacramento Bee.

There will be a meeting in New York between the joint committee on Wednesday prior to full Board of Governors meetings on Thursday and Friday. Earlier this month, NBA commissioner David Stern said it was possible that a vote could take place after the meetings concluded, but it was confirmed on Tuesday that the voting would be delayed. The official vote will likely take place next week via email or phone.

It has been two weeks since the Seattle and Sacramento groups made their official pitches to a group of NBA officials and owners in New York. The Seattle group, led by Chris Hansen, has agreed to purchase the Kings from the Maloof family pending approval from the Board of Governors.

Seattle needs 23 of 30 owners to approve the sale of the Kings to the Hansen group. A simply majority is then needed to approve the relocation.
