Steve Nash injury: Lakers guard upgraded to ‘game-time decision’

Steve Nash might be able to play for the Lakers, which is great news for a team that was on the verge of starting some guys you’ve only heard of if you’re a complete basketball nerd.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash might be able to play on a balky hip and hamstring, as he's now considered a game-time decision after being listed as doubtful.

It would be helpful if Nash can play for the Lakers Friday night. The Lakers' injury woes have gotten to be absurd at this point. The biggest thing is that Kobe Bryant is out for the season with an Achilles tear, but the team has already swallowed that pill and dealt with it. Then came the playoffs, and all of a sudden, Nash, Steve Blake, and Jodie Meeks -- basically the three guards in the rotation with Kobe out -- all came down with injuries simultaneously.

That left the Lakers staring down the barrel of a starting lineup featuring Chris Duhon, Darius Morris and Andrew Goudelock. Depending on how much you've seen Duhon, Morris and Goudelock play basketball, that sentence is either the funniest or scariest one ever typed.

Meanwhile, the Spurs continue to get healthier. It was a situation bad enough to get eternal Lakers optimist Magic Johnson to give up the ghost.

If Nash can hobble onto the court and give the Lakers some minutes, preferably hidden defensively on someone that is neither Tony Parker nor Manu Ginobili, he'll be a help. Los Angeles just needs their ball movement to be adequate enough to get the ball to either Pau Gasol or Dwight Howard within 12 feet of the basket, and Nash can probably do that better than Duhon, Morris or Goudelock. The Lakers need a win Friday night to avoid going down 3-0, which would pretty much end their season.
