McGee was fouled by the Warriors' Draymond Green while driving to the basket. McGee immediately grabbed his shoulder before collapsing to the floor while visibly in pain. McGee was forced to stay on the floor and attempt the ensuing free throws, both of which were missed. He exited the game at the next stoppage of play, which occurred with 1:11 left in the quarter.
Kenneth Faried reentered the game in place of McGee, the seven-footer out of Nevada who averaged 8.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in the first two games of the series.
The Nuggets and Warriors finished the opening quarter tied, 32-32.
