After shooting 0-6, scoring no points and grabbing no rebounds in the Los Angeles Lakers' Game 3 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Metta World Peace said he will likely not play in Game 4. The Spurs won Game 3 by 31 points and have a 3-0 series lead.
Metta World Peace injury: Lakers forward could miss Game 4 against Spurs
Metta World Peace looks like he’ll be another name on the Lakers’ impossibly long injury list.
World Peace came back from meniscus surgery after just two weeks and hasn’t been the same player. He tweeted Friday before Game 3 with a picture of the fluid that was drained from a cyst in his knee — it was gross — that was reportedly unrelated to his surgery. After his awful performance Friday night, here’s what he told reporters after the game, per Pro Basketball Talk:
“I’ll probably sit out Sunday,” World Peace said after the game. “Then these guys will be at full strength and they’ll be a strong five for a consistent game. We lacked that tonight. I was the weak link tonight, I missed defensive assignments and went short on a lot of shots. I couldn’t hustle on defense.”
World Peace would join Kobe Bryant (torn Achilles) and Steve Blake (strained hamstring) as definite DNPs, while Jodie Meeks, who sprained his ankle in Game 1, and Steve Nash (back and hip) are both doubtful. Jordan Hill, who missed most of the season following hip surgery, may play in Game 4, but it shouldn't matter. After the Spurs' 120-89 destruction of the Lakers in L.A., this series is over.
