Starting center Tiago Splitter is out indefinitely with a sprained left ankle, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich announced Saturday. Popovich hopes that Splitter will be able to return for the second round if the Spurs are able to finish off the Los Angeles Lakers.
Tiago Splitter injury update: Spurs’ C out ‘indefinitely,’ could return for 2nd round
Spurs center Tiago Splitter is out indefinitely with a sprained ankle, but the team is hoping he will return if the team advances to the next round.
Splitter rolled his ankle in the fourth quarter of San Antonio’s dominant Game 3 win on Friday night. He had to be helped off the floor and limped straight to the locker room. The big man later left the building with an air cast around his leg.
With Splitter out, Popovich will turn to DeJuan Blair and Matt Bonner to go along with Tim Duncan in the frontcourt. If the Spurs are able to close out the Lakers in Game 4, they will have about a week off before the start of the second round.
