Pau Gasol ponders future with Los Angeles Lakers

Lakers big man Pau Gasol admits that his time with the team, which includes two NBA titles, could be coming to a close this summer.

Los Angeles Lakers big man Pau Gasol says "there is a sense," that he may have just completed his final season in purple and gold, Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Coming off a frustrating campaign mixed with injuries and bouts of ineffectiveness, Gasol admitted the team may move on after being swept by San Antonio in the first round of the playoffs.

Medina says Gasol, a part of two NBA championships with the Lakers, nearly choked up while speaking with media.

"That is not something I have thought a lot about. I always try to play my best as if it is my last game. I am very thankful for our fans and the support they show," Gasol said.

Though the former All-Star struggled to find a clear role on the team whether the coach was Mike Brown or Mike D'Antoni, Gasol says that he'd be willing to return to L.A. for another season if the team is willing.

He's owed $19.3 million through next year, but the team could shed that salary by using the amnesty clause if a trade can't be reached. "I would like to be a part of another championship team here, but it's not up to me," he said.

In what could be his final Lakers season, Gasol averaged 13.7 points on 46 percent shooting, 8.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists over 49 games. Battling through injuries, he finished the season with career-lows is scoring and shooting percentage.
