The Philadelphia 76ers will hire Sam Hinkie to replace Tony DiLeo as General Manager, reports Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski. Hinkie was the executive vice president of basketball operations with the Houston Rockets and has been second-in-command to Rockets' General Manager Daryl Morey since 2010. He had been with the franchise since 2005.
Sixers hire Sam Hinkie as new general manager, according to report
The Sixers have dipped into Houston to sign Daryl Morey’s top assistant.

Hinkie will have his work cut out for him. The Sixers were 34-48 through the season and are without a head coach after Doug Collins resigned. There's also the matter of center Andrew Bynum. Bynum was Philadelphia's centerpiece in a trade that sent Andre Iguodala to the Denver Nuggets and Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers. Bynum did not play for the Sixers during the season and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
While with Houston, Hinkie had a hand in draft decisions, scouting and salary cap management. The Rockets front office is known for advocating analytics and Hinkie will now have an opportunity to apply what he learned under Morey with a team of his own in Philadelphia.
