Former NBA journeyman Mark Madsen, known best from his supporting role with the Los Angeles Lakers last decade, is finalizing a deal to become the coach of the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the Lakers' D-League affiliate, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

The current Stanford assistant and former Laker is finalizing a deal to replace Reggie Theus as the team’s head coach.

Madsen just finished his first season as an assistant head coach for the Stanford Cardinal, where he was a two time All-American in 1998 and 1999. This won't be Madsen's first run in the D-League. Before heading to Stanford, he was an assistant for two seasons with the Utah Flash, who were recently purchased by the Philadelphia 76ers and relocated to Delaware and renamed the 87ers. He replaces Reggie Theus, who left the team earlier this spring to become the head coach at Cal State-Northridge.
While he did win two titles with the Lakers and spent nine seasons in the NBA, Madsen is best remembered for his quirky dancing during the Lakers’ 2001 championship celebration.
