Frank Vogel on Dwyane Wade’s elbowing: ‘We’re going to get hit’

Dwyane Wade delivered a cheap elbow to Lance Stephenson in the fourth quarter of Game 2, but Pacers coach Frank Vogel said his team is not worried about that sort of stuff.

Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel figured his team's Eastern Conference Finals series against the Miami Heat would feature plenty of high tension and physical play. After two hard fought games, that has proven to be the case, highlighted by Dwyane Wade's flying elbow to Lance Stephenson with just over four minutes to play in the Pacers' 97-93 Game 2 victory.

The officials missed the elbow, although Wade could still face discipline prior to Sunday’s Game 3. The Pacers could have lost their cool after the cheap shot, but instead, they finished the game strong and stole homecourt advantage.

Vogel said he was impressed with his team’s composure, and he said after the game they will not focus on any of those extracurriculars via Sports Illustrated’s Ian Thomsen:

“We’re not paying attention to any of that stuff,” said Vogel. “We’re going to get hit. It’s going to be physical.”

Keeping its cool when whistles don’t go its way is of the utmost importance for Indiana, and its resiliency in Game 2 is a good sign for the rest of the series. The Pacers have shown they can hang with the Heat, and now the series shifts to Indiana where the home team has had a lot of success this season.
