The Charlotte Bobcats have reached an agreement with Los Angeles Lakers assistant Steve Clifford to be the team's new head coach, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. Clifford replaces former coach Mike Dunlap, who lasted just one year on the job.

The Bobcats have hired their second coach in two years, this time bringing in assistant Steve Clifford from the Los Angeles Lakers.

He will receive a two-year deal with a team option for the third year, potentially worth $6 million if he lasts the duration of the contract, USA Today’s Sam Amick adds.
Clifford, who joined the Lakers in 2012 after spending five years with the Orlando Magic, has never been an NBA head coach. Beyond his time with L.A. and Orlando, he's also had assistant coaching stints with the Rockets and Knicks, plus he spent four years as head coach at Division II Adelphi University.
Other possible candidates for Charlotte's opening included CSKA Moscow assistant Quin Snyder and Houston Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson. Along with Sampson and Hawks coach Larry Drew, Clifford was reportedly a finalist for the Bucks' coaching vacancy. With him out of the mix, it appears Milwaukee is down to just two candidates, barring new developments.
