NBA Draft 2013: Pelicans reportedly like what they see from Trey Burke

Burke would provide New Orleans with additional scoring from the perimeter, as well as allow Greivis Vasquez to play off the ball with more frequency.

USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Pelicans will have plenty of options with the No. 6 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, but Michigan’s Trey Burke is positioning himself as one intriguing choice, according to John Reid of The Times-Picayune.

On Burke, Reid writes: "Sources say the Pelicans like Burke because he has the potential to get them in their offensive sets quicker and he could provide more versatility in their backcourt that could include starting point guard Greivis Vasquez playing off the ball."

Burke, who was named the AP National Player of the Year last season after averaging 18.6 points and 6.7 assists, is widely regarded as the top point guard available in this year's draft class. A handful of early mock drafts have Burke going as high as No. 2 overall to the Magic, although there is a solid possibility he is still on the board once New Orleans is on the clock.

The same report from Reid indicates Georgetown’s Otto Porter would also be a nice fit in New Orleans. Porter is expected to go in the top three, though, meaning the Pelicans would likely have to trade up if they wanted to land the lanky small forward.
