As the Los Angeles Clippers aim to stave off elimination in Game 6 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the Memphis Grizzlies, All-Star forward Blake Griffin will play with a high ankle sprain, but won't start. Kevin Arnovitz was the first to update Griffin's status on Twitter.
Blake Griffin injury: Clippers forward will play in Game 6, but won’t start
Griffin will suit up on Friday night, although it’s unclear how effective he will be. He was limited to just four points and five rebounds in Game 5.
It's unclear how effective Griffin will be on both ends of the floor. The Clippers can survive if he isn't scoring at a high rate, but he'll have to keep Zach Randolph in check on the defensive end. Z-Bo went off for 25 points the last time these two teams met up, and with Memphis running just about all of their offense through the high post in the series, it's imperative L.A. keys in on Randolph tonight.
Griffin was limited in Game 5, scoring just four points and bringing down five rebounds while playing 20 minutes. He did not appear in the fourth quarter as Memphis went on to win, 103-93.
Griffin, who originally hurt himself during Monday’s practice, went through warmups earlier Friday morning and was seen walking gingerly around FedEx Forum. He did not speak with the media or give any kind of indication whether he not he was going to play earlier in the day.
Tipoff for Game 6 in Memphis is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET.
