The Denver Nuggets were upset by the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the NBA playoffs, but team president Josh Kroenke said head coach George Karl is not in danger of losing his job.

More Nuggets coverage: Denver Stiffs

The Nuggets were primed for a deep playoff run this season, winning 57 games and capturing the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. However, an ACL tear suffered by Danilo Gallinari late in the year proved to be a huge problem and Denver fell 4-2 in the first round to Golden State. Karl led the team to the playoffs every year since he signed on as head coach in January 2005, but he has only advanced out of the first round once (via the Denver Post):

“George is under contract for next year. At this point in time, we haven’t really given any thought to making any change whatsoever,” Nuggets president Josh Kroenke told The Denver Post and nuggets.com. “As we do at the end of every season, we’ll have internal meetings and George will obviously be a major part of them.”

Karl had a good amount of success since the Nuggets traded Carmelo Anthony in Feb. 2011, but the playoff failures will be what are remembered. Denver had issues adjusting to the Warriors in their first round series loss and Karl has also come under question for relying so much on Andre Miller.

Karl has one year left on his contract.
