Anthony Bennett will miss 4 months following shoulder surgery

The UNLV forward, expected to be a top-10 pick, will not be able to participate in any pre-draft workouts or the summer league.

USA TODAY Sports

UNLV freshman Anthony Bennett will have surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder, according to Bennett's agent (via Chad Ford).

Bennett's recovery time, which is expected to be about four months, will prevent him from doing any pre-draft workouts and from playing in the NBA's summer league. He joins Kentucky freshman Nerlens Noel and Maryland sophomore Alex Len as the latest highly touted prospect who will be on the shelf during the pre-draft process.

Bennett was expected to be a top-10 pick before the injury and that’s unlikely to change, especially in a draft widely considered to be shallow at the top.

However, his inability to work out for teams could prevent him from being taken even higher, as many front offices can be swayed by an impressive performance at their facility in the weeks leading up to the draft.

An athletic 6’8, 240 combo forward, Bennett averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds on 53% shooting in his one season at UNLV.
