TNT's Kenny Smith is the latest name to join a long list of candidates for the Sacramento Kings' general manager position, according to USA Today's Sam Amick.

Smith told Amick Sunday night that he has had conversations with new Kings owner Vivek Ranadive about the job, which will open up when Geoff Petrie’s contract expires at the end of the month. Smith would not delve into specifics, only revealing that discussions have been held and that he’s interested in front office opportunities.

Smith has ties with the Kings, as he was drafted by Sacramento sixth overall in 1987. He played two-plus seasons there before getting traded to the Atlanta Hawks.

Ranadive has been very thorough during this hiring process, having discussions with a number of different candidates. Amick reports that Nuggets' vice president of basketball operations Pete D'Alessandro is a candidate after Denver finally gave Sacramento permission to interview him. Amick also says that if D'Alessandro gets the job, there's a "strong" chance that Brooklyn Nets assistant general manager Bobby Marks would join him in Sacramento.

Other prominent names in the Kings' search include former Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird, longtime coach and executive Mike Dunleavy, former Memphis Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace, Golden State Warriors assistant general manager Travis Schlenk and former Pacers general manager David Morway.
