Tony Parker injury: Spurs guard to have MRI on hamstring

Spurs point guard Tony Parker will have an MRI on Wednesday for a hamstring injury suffered in Game 3, but early indications are that the injury is just a bad cramp.

San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker will undergo an MRI on Wednesday for a right hamstring injury suffered in the Spurs' 113-77 Game 3 win over the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. But according to Buck Harvey of the San Antonio Express-News, the injury is just a bad cramp and Parker is expected to be ready for Thursday's Game 4.

Parker first exited the game with the injury late in the third quarter, heading straight to the locker room after leaving the floor. Parker did return to the bench and even re-entered the game in the fourth quarter, but he came out with 10:33 left as the Spurs held a comfortable lead. Parker finished the game with six points and eight assists in 27 minutes.

Parker received extensive medical treatment after the game and told reporters that the injury was “really weird.” The Spurs’ point guard was unsure of the extent of the injury but was hoping for the best, and it appears that he won’t have to miss any time. Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears reports that the MRI is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET.

Parker has had a few injury problems this season, missing three weeks in March with an ankle injury and also dealing with a calf issue earlier this postseason. Parker received a precautionary MRI for the calf prior to the Western Conference Finals, but he did not have to miss any games.

Parker is averaging 21.3 points and 7.1 assists in the playoffs, and losing him would be a huge blow for San Antonio. If the injury is worse than expected and Parker is somehow unable to go in Game 4, Cory Joseph would likely get the start.
