Dwight Howard spoke to T.J. Simers of the L.A. Times about his impending free agency, and said virtually nothing about it besides the fact that it exists.

Howard could leave the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency, but he could also not.

In the latest installment of Simers’ series of basically getting to write about having fun with Lakers big men -- remember his coffee date with Pau Gasol? -- the columnist had his daughter participate in a free throw shooting contest with Howard. That’s predictable, but not as predictable as some of the tremendously non-committal things Howard said in another impressive troll job by a man breaking records for sounding like a broken record.
On free agency:
“It’s free agency and I have the opportunity to choose where I’m going to play,” he said. “God opens doors, and I’m relying on my faith to direct me.
“I don’t think it’s fair I get criticized for waiting on such an opportunity.”
Cool. More on free agency:
“I have no idea what people are saying,” he said. “I don’t pay attention to the good, bad or the ugly. Or else I couldn’t live.”
Sweet. On Mike D’Antoni:
“I love him,” he said. “He’s a great person.”
Is he a great coach?
“He’s a great person and I’m glad we had the opportunity to be together,” said Howard.
This is the most Dwight Howard thing Dwight Howard has ever said, and I am in awe.
Interesting things Howard said include the fact that he went to see a team psychiatrist last season -- can’t blame him -- and that he played through a lot of pain between back and shoulder injuries. Simers zings Howard about playing in Houston or Atlanta or Dallas, but Howard said nothing in response besides a joke about filming a sequel to Kazaam, which would be the most Dwight Howard thing since that Dwight Howard thing I just said was the most Dwight Howard thing.
