Doc Rivers trade: Celtics, Clippers reach deal pending league approval, according to report

The Celtics and Clippers have reportedly agreed to a deal that would send Doc Rivers to Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics have submitted a trade that would send Doc Rivers to L.A. for a draft pick, reports Jackie MacMullan of ESPN. The pick will be an unprotected 2015 first-rounder, according to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Clippers have finalized a three-year, $21 million contract with Rivers, and the deal is pending league approval.

David Stern has made it clear that discussions between the Clippers and Celtics regarding the status of Rivers cannot also hold implications for future deals. Since Stern's announcement that the league would "know how to deal with" the transactions, there have been no updates on a potential trade that would send Kevin Garnett to the Clippers for DeAndre Jordan and two future first-round draft picks.

Clips Nation: Stern's last stand

If the Clippers and Celtics are able to strike a deal, the league will have questions regarding any other activity between the teams. The head office appears prepared to challenge any trade that would send Garnett to the Clippers within weeks of a Rivers trade, but what about a few months down the road?
