Nuggets rumors: Spurs assistant Brett Brown emerges as ‘serious’ candidate, according to report

Will the Nuggets replace George Karl with a first-time NBA head coach from San Antonio?

Matt Roberts

The Denver Nuggets have interviewed and will consider San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown for the team's head coach position, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Brown has been on Gregg Popovich's staff since 2002. Brown was the head coach of Australia's men's national team for the 2012 Olympic cycle and also led various Australian club teams. A Maine native, Brown played under Rick Pitino at Boston University before coaching in Oz.

Woj also reports that Denver has interviewed and will consider Melvin Hunt, an assistant under Karl, for the job. The Nuggets stunningly let general manager Masai Ujiri leave for the Raptors and fired Karl after a wildly successful season in which both men were named the best performers in their fields by their peers. Denver also lost assistant general manager Pete D'Alessandro, who took the lead front office job with Sacramento.
