NBA trade rumors: Rockets in ‘advanced talks’ to move Thomas Robinson, according to report

Houston is attempting to trade Robinson as they look to make enough room under the salary cap to offer Dwight Howard a max contract.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets are apparently in "advanced talks" to trade Thomas Robinson, according to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen, less than five months after acquiring last year's No. 5 overall pick from the Sacramento Kings.

Robinson isn't an exorbitant cost to the Rockets next season, as the $3.5 million he's owed is actually quite affordable when considering his talent level. Houston is working to move him not because he isn't talented, however, but because they're attempting to get further under the salary cap as they try to woo superstar free agent Dwight Howard.

Feigen reports that there are 16 teams around the league that could trade for Robinson without having to send the Rockets any future guaranteed salaries in return. He reports that the San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers are two of the teams to have shown interest in Robinson, but San Antonio wouldn't be able to make the deal without sending the Rockets salary in return.

It’ll be interesting to see how long it takes for the Rockets to move Robinson, a top young talent, when considering they’re essentially giving him away in exchange for room to offer Howard a max deal.
