German point guard Dennis Schroeder has been taken by the Atlanta Hawks with the No. 17 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
NBA Draft 2013: Atlanta Hawks select Dennis Schroeder at No. 17
Jeff Teague is a restricted free agent, and the Hawks may have selected his replacement at No. 17 in German point guard Dennis Schroeder.
Schroeder spent the last two seasons in the top German professional league. The 19-year-old did not play much in his first year of action, but he broke out in his second season. Schroeder finished the year with averages of 12.0 points, 3.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds.
Schroeder is extremely quick with a long wingspan, which has led to some comparisons to Rajon Rondo. Schroeder has also shown an ability to shoot from long range, and has the potential to be an excellent defender.
Schroeder may be a bit of a project, but he could either develop behind Jeff Teague or perhaps be a replacement, as Teague is a restricted free agent. If Teague sticks around, the Hawks can bring Schroeder along a bit more slowly and use him as a spark off the bench.
