Mike Muscala, a 6'11 center from Bucknell, has been selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the No. 44 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Muscala is an efficient big man with an inside-out offensive game and an impressive collegiate resume from his four years with the Bison.
NBA Draft 2013: Dallas Mavericks select Mike Muscala with No. 44 pick
The Mavericks snagged Mike Muscala with the No. 44 pick in the draft. Muscala enjoyed a productive college career and will help Dallas down low.
Muscala made improvements to his game every year at Bucknell, culminating in a senior season where he averaged 18.7 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and 2.3 assists in 31.7 minutes per game. Every big man from a smaller conference is bound to face questions about his ability to compete against NBA athletes on a nightly basis, and that’s one of the biggest concerns scouts had with Muscala. He posted excellent rebounding and shot blocking numbers at Bucknell, but his lack of premium athleticism will put him at disadvantage on the defensive end in the NBA.
His best contributions are bound to come on the offensive side of the game. He boasts a well-developed post game and good shooting range for a big man. He seems to understand his strengths, and he played to them well during his time in college.
Dallas needs some frontcourt help, especially if they strike out in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes. Muscala obviously won’t make up for losing out on Howard, but he could at least provide some low-post scoring.
