NBA Draft 2013: Trey Burke traded to Utah Jazz after Timberwolves drafted him

The Utah Jazz have acquired Trey Burke in a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Burke was selected with the ninth overall pick by Minnesota.

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Michigan Wolverines point guard Trey Burke with the ninth overall pick in Thursday night's NBA Draft. There won't be any issues with Burke and Ricky Rubio battling for playing time, however, as it was reported on ESPN's television coverage that Burke has been traded to the Utah Jazz.

The trade, which was first reported during an interview with Burke’s mother, will send him to the Jazz in exchange for their Nos. 14 and 21 picks in the first round.

Burke was named the NCAA’s most outstanding player, as he was awarded the Wooden Award this season. It makes sense, then, that he’ll take over the reins for the Jazz this season instead of backing up Rubio in Minnesota.

The Jazz could undergo a huge overhaul, as the majority of their starters will enter free agency next week. Burke will join a young nucleus that already includes former first-round picks at each of the other four positions on the floor.

Utah has a great core to build around, but it’ll still be interesting to see what Utah does during free agency.
