NBA Draft 2013: Kelly Olynyk traded to Celtics for trio of picks

The Dallas Mavericks traded Kelly Olynyk, who they selected with the 13th overall pick, to the Boston Celtics for the No. 16 overall pick and two future second rounders.

The Boston Celtics have been very active in trade talks leading up to the NBA Draft, but nobody expected the deal they pulled off on Thursday night. Boston traded up to get the No. 13 pick from the Dallas Mavericks in order to select Gonzaga's Kelly Olynyk.

The Celtics will send the No. 16 pick and two future second round picks to the Mavericks in exchange for Olynyk’s rights, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

Olynyk started pretty quietly in Spokane and even redshirted prior to his junior season to try and improve his game -- a rare move for someone becoming a lottery pick in the next season. He busted out this past season, though, en route to leading the Bulldogs to a top seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs were eventually upset by Wichita State, but Olynyk showed throughout the season that he was worth a lottery pick.

Olynyk is one of the most offensively talented bigs in this year's draft and, if the Cetlics do go through with the Kevin Garnett trade, it sounds as though he could be Boston's starting center next season.
