NBA Draft 2013: Denver Nuggets selects Joffrey Lauvergne with No. 55 pick

The Denver Nuggets took Frenchman Joffrey Lauvergne with the No. 55 pick in the draft, and the athletic power forward will likely spend a little bit of time overseas before coming to the NBA.

The Denver Nuggets selected French power forward Joffrey Lauvergne with the No. 55 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Lauvergne seemed likely to be one of the last picks in the draft, so the 6'11 prospect was lucky to hear his name called a few before the end of the night..

The 21-year-old is an athletic power forward that spent the early portion of his career, but has molded himself into more of an athletic post presence as of late. He'll need to get stronger to guards 4s in the NBA, but his presence above-the-rim on offense should help him transition easier than some of the less mobile European bigs with hopes of making the jump.

As interesting it would be to see an athletic-type power forward with an up-tempo squad like the Nuggets right off the bat, he's most likely going to be stashed overseas for a considerable amount of time.

Lauvergne played for three different teams this past year so fitting in with his new squad in the NBA shouldn't be a tremendous adjustment. The question is when will Lauvergne be available to play in the NBA, though, as multiple reports indicate he's under contract with Partizan in Serbia for the next two seasons.
