Ben Gordon accepting player option with Charlotte Bobcats, according to report

Ben Gordon will return to Charlotte for the final year of his contract.

Ben Gordon will accept his $13.2 million player option with the Charlotte Bobcats, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports. Gordon will play out the final year of his contract in Charlotte after putting up career-lows last season.

Gordon did not start a single game through the 2012-13 season for the first time in his career. He averaged career lows in minutes (20.8), points per game (11.2), and field goal percentage (40.8) in his first season with the organization. Gordon was traded by the Detroit Pistons for Corey Maggette and a protected future first-round draft pick.

Gordon's contract began in 2009 after he signed with the Pistons for $58 million over five years. While the Bobcats are moving in the direction of developing their youth -- their latest lottery addition Indiana's Cody Zeller -- the 29-year-old Gordon has become an off-the-bench veteran for the young nucleus.

The Bobcats finished the season with the second-worst record in the league at 21-61.
