Jason Kidd retired from the NBA following a 19-year career that included 10 All-Star appearances and one championship, the New York Knicks announced Monday.

“My time in professional basketball has been an incredible journey, but one that must come to an end after 19 years,” Kidd said in a Knicks press release. “As I reflect on my time with the four teams I represented in the NBA, I look back fondly at every season and thank each every one of my teammates and coaches that joined me on the court.”
This past season, Kidd played for the Knicks and averaged 6.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in mostly a reserve role. Though he played in 88 total games, his postseason production was poor. He shot just 12 percent from the floor and averaged 0.9 points, 2.0 assists and a steal in 20 minutes a night.
Kidd was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 1994 and played for the Phoenix Suns and then the New Jersey Nets. He joined the Knicks this past year following a second run with the Mavs, where he won an NBA title in 2011.
Kidd also played in two Olympic Games for Team USA in 2000 and 2008.
A four-time NBA All-Defensive team member, Kidd holds career averages of 12.6 points, 8.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. He might be most remembered for his evolution as he aged. Once a pass-first point guard, Kidd gradually changed his game to play more off the ball in his later years.
