Nets coaching rumors: Brooklyn 1 of 3 teams to contact Larry Brown

The Nets are one of three teams, along with the 76ers and possibly the Clippers, to reportedly have contacted Larry Brown about their head coaching position.

The Brooklyn Nets are one of three teams to have contacted SMU coach Larry Brown about their coaching vacancy, according to a report from SNY.tv's Adam Zagoria.

The Philadelphia 76ers have also talked to Brown, while the identity of the third team could not be confirmed. Many are speculating that it's the Los Angeles Clippers.

Brown last coached in the NBA with the Charlotte Bobcats during the 2010-11 season. He was fired after starting the year 9-19. The longtime coach has been with nine different NBA teams over the course of his coaching career, including stints with the Nets, Sixers and Clippers.

Brown is the only man to win both an NCAA and NBA title as a coach. He holds a career NBA coaching record of 1098-904.

Brown does have a connection with Nets general manager Billy King, as King was the GM in Philadelphia while Brown coached there. However, it’s unclear whether Brown has any interest in leaving SMU and returning to the NBA.

Other top candidates for the Nets job include Indiana Pacers assistant Brian Shaw, as well as Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins.
