Among the many things that make LeBron James the world's best basketball player, versatility could go near the top. That unique ability should be on full display in the Finals as the reigning MVP will "probably" be asked to defend all five positions at different points in the series against the San Antonio Spurs, according to Al Iannazzone of Newsday.

Speaking prior to the beginning of the series Thursday night, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra admitted that he would likely ask James to cover whoever is necessary on defense, regardless of position. It's a challenge that would be impossible for many players, but few humans boast the 6'8 frame and physical skills of LeBron.

Armed with the size and skill to match practically any kind of opponent, he’ll likely be tasked with taking on the Spurs’ hottest scorer each night, regardless of whom that might be.
It's a strategy Miami has used to great success in the past. During the team's 2011 Eastern Conference Finals matchup against the Chicago Bulls, James' suffocating defense on then-MVP Derrick Rose completely changed the tone of the series, as the lightning quick point guard struggled to get quality looks.
The Spurs don't have a scorer of Rose's caliber, but each night James could be forced to take on a different kind of foe. Whether it's Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili or someone else rocking the hot hand, don't be surprised if Spoelstra throws positions to the wayside in favor of putting his best defender on the opponent's best scorer.
