Magic may trade down from No. 2 pick, according to report

Looking to gather additional assets, the Magic could trade down from the No. 2 pick in the draft.

USA TODAY Sports

The Orlando Magic have entertained the idea of trading down from the No. 2 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and "quite a few" teams are showing interest, according to Brian K. Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel.

Such a deal could allow Orlando to land its targeted prospect while adding additional assets from another team. In a draft that lacks consensus, it’s possible the Magic may be targeting someone likely to drop past the first few picks -- in that case, dealing the No. 2 pick for the right package could make sense.

One of the draft’s top backcourt prospects seems a logical target for Orlando. After reportedly being high on Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart before he decided to stay in school, other guards like Kansas’ Ben McLemore, Indiana’s Victor Oladipo and Michigan’s Trey Burke should be available in the first 10 picks.

With the likes of Tobias Harris, Nikola Vucevic, Andrew Nicholson and Maurice Harkless around, getting a young guard is the obvious next step. If the Magic can do that while completing a trade for additional assets, don't be surprised if they do so.
