Brian Shaw is one of the hottest commodities on the coaching market, and the Brooklyn Nets are one of the teams “really interested” in obtaining his services, according to the New York Post’s Fred Kerber.

The Nets are one of the many teams that wants to make Pacers assistant Brian Shaw their head coach.

We already knew that the Clippers and the Nuggets were interested in the Indiana Pacers’ assistant. But according to the Post, the Nets have joined the fray. As Pacers exec Donnie Walsh told the Post:
“He is a really good head coach waiting to happen,” Walsh said. “He has the player experience but he has spent his time as an assistant with a lot of good coaches, particularly Phil Jackson. Now he’s been through the situation with us.”
The long-time NBA player has had many suitors as he tries to start his coaching career. He’s been on the sidelines since 2004 -- just a season after his playing career ended. He quickly turned into Phil Jackson’s protégé in Los Angeles, but he has yet to actually take over the head coaching job for a franchise. After the Pacers went further than anybody could have expected, pushing the Miami Heat to seven games, the league-wide buzz surrounding him has just grown. The Post reports that six teams have asked for permission to interview Shaw.
Of the six new head coaches who have been hired thus far, four -- Steve Clifford, Jeff Hornacek, Mike Malone and Mike Budenholzer -- are taking their first head coaching gig. Last season, two of three new head coaches were taking their first job, with Mike Dunlap only lasting a year with the Bobcats and Jacque Vaughn getting decent reviews for making the most from a bottom-barrel Magic squad.
