The process for selecting a winner for the Twyman-Stokes Award involves a panel of NBA legends nominating 12 players -- six from each conference -- who display selfless play and on- and off-court leadership while showing commitment and dedication to his team. Once the nominations are finalized NBA players cast their vote.

Billups appeared in 28 games through the season and playoffs for the Clippers, struggling with a strained groin, tendinitis in his left foot and a sore lower back. At 36 years old and and with 16 years of experience in the league, it appears his fellow NBA players find his contributions as a teammate to be the “ideal” way to be a part of a team.
