The Charlotte Bobcats are pursuing Utah Jazz unrestricted free agent Al Jefferson, according to CBS Sports' Ken Berger.
NBA free agency rumors: Bobcats to pursue Al Jefferson, according to report
The Bobcats have made Al Jefferson their top offseason priority, despite already having two young frontcourt players in place.

The Bobcats could have a good amount of cap room this offseason depending on a possible amnesty of Tyrus Thomas and the renouncing of several free agents, so clearing enough space for a run at Jefferson shouldn't be too much of a problem.
The question is why the Bobcats would want to sign Jefferson to a big deal in the first place. While Jefferson is a talented scorer and solid rebounder, his defense is poor and Charlotte has been one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA the past few years.
But perhaps more important is the fact that signing Jefferson could stunt the development of the two young frontcourt players in place while not improving the team enough to be a playoff contender. The Bobcats already had Bismack Biyombo heading into this offseason, and then they used their No. 4 pick on Indiana big man Cody Zeller.
It would seem like a better idea to let Biyombo and Zeller develop together and look for more help elsewhere, but perhaps Charlotte feels Jefferson could aid their development.
