Dwight Howard rumors: Warriors prepare sign-and-trade offer, according to report

The Golden State Warriors might be a longshot to land Dwight Howard, but they have the best return to the Lakers if Los Angeles wants to make a sign-and-trade deal.

Dwight Howard will meet the Golden State Warriors' brass on Monday and the team hopes to sell the free agent big man on the pieces it can provide around him, according to the Contra Costa Times' Marcus Thompson.

If the Warriors can't sign Howard outright, though, they would be willing to try and work on a sign-and-trade deal with the Lakers. CBS Sports' Ken Berger reports there have not been any trade talks between the two teams, however, meaning any such thought is still in the works on Golden State's end.

Golden State of Mind: More on the Warriors' offseason

The Warriors could offer the Lakers a package of Andrew Bogut and either Klay Thompson or Harrison Barnes, according to Thompson, but Golden State also has options to keep its core together.

A deal of Bogut and the expiring contracts of veteran swingman Richard Jefferson or big man Andris Biedrins would give Los Angeles much-needed cap relief a year down the road. The belief in the Warriors' camp is that they can provide the Lakers with the most options if Los Angeles wants any sort of return on Howard.

Golden State obviously considers Stephen Curry one of the key selling points for Howard, but it remains to be seen whether the team can acquire Howard with Curry, Thompson and Barnes still on the roster. Curry is the least likely to be dealt as he is involved in the Warriors' recruitment of Howard.
