NBA free agency 2013: Pelicans make lucrative offer sheet to Tyreke Evans

The Pelicans have offered Evans a lucrative deal. Will he accept it and give the Kings a tough decision?

USA TODAY Sports

Ready for another big splash this summer, the New Orleans Pelicans "made a lucrative, four-year offer to Tyreke Evans in last night's meeting" with the restricted free agent, USA Today's Sam Amick reports. It's worth $44 million, NBA.com's David Aldridge adds.

Should Evans accept the sizable offer, the Sacramento Kings will be forced to make a tough decision on arguably their best player. After making a qualifying offer to the former Rookie of the Year before the deadline, Sacramento retains the right to match all offers made to Evans.

After trading for Jrue Holiday on draft night, it's clear New Orleans hopes to make major progress in its first season under the Pelicans nickname. Adding Evans to a roster that already features Holiday, Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon would make New Orleans one of the most entertaining young teams in the league.

Considering the ups and downs in Evans’ career, it’s easy to forget that he doesn’t turn 24 until September. Finally settling into a wing role with Sacramento last season, he averaged 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals in 65 games.
