NBA free agency: Jordan Farmar agrees with Lakers on 1-year deal

After several years apart, Jordan Farmar will return to the Lakers on a one-year deal.

Jordan Farmar has agreed to a one-year, veteran minimum contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles.

This will be a reunion for the two parties, as Farmar played his first four seasons in the NBA with the Lakers after being drafted out of UCLA. Farmar played a key reserve role on two Lakers championship teams in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Farmar went to the New Jersey Nets in 2010 and averaged 10.4 points on 44.0 percent three-point shooting in 2011-12, both career-highs. Farmer was then dealt to the Atlanta Hawks as part of the Joe Johnson trade. Farmar was bought out by the Hawks, and he wound up heading over to Europe.

Farmar signed a three-year, $10.5 million deal with Turkish club Anadolu Efes last summer, so he’s leaving quite a bit of money on the table in order to come back to the NBA. Before Farmar can officially return, the Lakers must negotiate a buyout in the $500,000 range with Anadolu Efes

Farmar will be the third point guard on the Lakers behind Steve Nash and Steve Blake, but Farmar has talked to Mike D'Antoni about playing some shooting guard. That could be especially helpful early in the season as Kobe Bryant recovers from his Achilles injury.
