Free agent point guard John Lucas III will likely sign with the Utah Jazz this week after notifying other suitors he's committed to the team, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports. A deal between the two sides isn't done yet but could be "on course to be sealed" before the end of the week.
NBA free agency: John Lucas III commits to Jazz, according to report
It looks like the Jazz have a backup for rookie point guard Trey Burke.

A fringe NBA player before breaking out with the Chicago Bulls during the 2011-12 season, Lucas likely joins the Jazz on an affordable short-term deal. After acquiring Trey Burke during last month's draft, the Jazz can roll out Lucas as a backup point guard and bench scorer.
Signed by the Toronto Raptors to a one-year deal last season, Lucas appeared in 63 games for the club. Stuck as the third-string point guard behind Kyle Lowry and Jose Calderon for much of the year, he averaged 5.3 points and 1.7 assists per game.
