NBA free agency 2013: Pacers, David West close to 3-year deal, according to report

The Pacers are reportedly finalizing a deal for West worth roughly $36 million that would keep him in Indiana for the next three seasons.

The Indiana Pacers are reportedly finalizing a three-year deal with free agent power forward David West, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. West will make approximately $36 million over the duration of the deal, according to Wojnarowski's report, with the third year likely being a player option.

That’s not a significant raise for a player SB Nation’s Tom Ziller ranked as the No. 7 free agent of the offseason, but a three-year deal for a player that will begin next season as a 33-year-old is certainly nothing to scoff at.

West was instrumental as a hard-nosed leader on the surprising Pacers this past season, but his production nearly matched the intangibles he brought to Indiana. West averaged 17 points and nearly eight rebounds in 73 starts for the Pacers this past regular season before putting together a few big games in the Pacers’ run to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The veteran power forward was the only significant Pacers contributor entering free agency this year, so if the deal happens as reported, it should also be looked at as a coup for Larry Bird’s front office.
