NBA trade rumors: Clippers may offer Caron Butler or Jamal Crawford to get O.J. Mayo

The Clippers are exploring options to sign-and-trade for Mayo that don’t involve dealing Eric Bledsoe to the Dallas Mavericks.

The Los Angeles Clippers aren't interested in trading Eric Bledsoe now that Doc Rivers is in charge, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard. That reportedly won't keep them from pursuing O.J. Mayo in a sign-and-trade with the Dallas Mavericks, however, because the Clippers believe they have a few other options.

The Clippers are prepared to offer either Caron Butler or Jamal Crawford to the Mavericks in exchange for them surrendering Mayo to Los Angeles, according to Broussard. That isn't quite the value Dallas might have received if Bledsoe was in the deal, but it's significantly better than Mayo leaving without any compensation at all.

Crawford averaged 16.5 points as the Clippers’ top-scoring weapon off the bench this past season, playing nearly 30 minutes per game even though he didn’t start one of the 76 contests in which he played.

The 33-year-old Butler isn’t quite the replacement for Mayo that Crawford would be, but his $8 million expiring contract might be worth something to the Mavericks at the trade deadline if they decided to go that route.
