NBA free agency: Kings make Andre Iguodala top priority

The Kings are going to make a hard run at Andre Iguodala and likely allow Tyreke Evans to go to New Orleans.

USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings are making Andre Iguodala their top priority in free agency in a move that could have have effects all the way down to New Orleans, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. If the Kings are able to snatch up Iguodala, it would allow Evans to go to the Pelicans.

Multiple reports indicated the Pelicans made Evans a four-year, $44 million offer sheet and that he intends to sign on July 10 when the league lifts its moratorium on free agency.

Evans, who turns 24 before next season starts, may still be in the picture for Sacramento if Iguodala opts to sign elsewhere, but his departure is fairly certain if the Kings can get a commitment from the Nuggets small forward. Signing Iguodala and letting Evans go would seem to make sense after the team drafted shooting guard Ben McLemore in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft.

The Kings are going to face tough competition from the Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons for Iguodala. Denver has made re-signing Iguodala a priority. While he did want time to reevaluate the team after George Karl was fired, new head coach Brian Shaw is well-liked around the league.

Iguodala averaged 13 points, 5.4 assists and 5.3 rebounds last season, his first in Denver. He and McLemore can play the wing positions together and Iguodala is considered an excellent teammate, something the Kings likely hope will allow him to become a mentor for McLemore.
