Phoenix Suns forward Channing Frye missed all of last season due to an enlarged heart, but he and the Suns are optimistic that he'll be able to return for this upcoming year, according to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic.

Both Channing Frye and the Suns have expressed optimism that the big man will be able to suit up next season after missing all of last year with an enlarged heart.

Frye was first discovered to have the heart issue during a routine checkup in Sept. 2012, which forced him to miss the entire year. However, new Suns general manager Ryan McDonough says that Frye has received some good results on recent tests:
“We’re optimistic that he’ll be with us and playing,” McDonough said of Frye. “Channing wants to play and the results he has gotten have been good. Obviously, we just want a consensus.”
Before the heart problem, Frye was a solid contributor for Phoenix. The 6’11 big man started 59 games during the 2011-12 season, averaging 10.5 points and 5.9 rebounds.
Frye had his most productive season as a pro in 2010-11, averaging 12.7 points and 6.7 rebounds while nailing 39.0 percent of his three-pointers. The year before that, he hit 43.9 percent from deep on 4.8 attempts per game.
Frye is set to earn $6.4 million next season, and he has a $6.8 million player option for 2014-15. The Suns will have 16 guaranteed contracts once first-round pick Alex Len signs, but while the roster limit is 15, Frye will almost certainly be a part of it if he's cleared to play.
