NBA free agent rumors roundup: Bucks make big offer to Kyle Korver, Pistons pursued Rudy Gay trade

The Bucks and Pistons appear prepared to spend a pretty big chunk of change this offseason as we look at the latest rumors around the NBA.

USA TODAY Sports

With J.J. Redick and Mike Dunleavy finding their way out of town, the Milwaukee Bucks have extended a highly lucrative contract offer to free-agent sharpshooter Kyle Korver. ESPN's Marc Stein pegs the value of the offer at three years and $20 million.

Not long ago, Korver signing with the Brooklyn Nets appeared to be a likely scenario, with one source saying the deal was "in the bag" for the taxpayer mid-level exception. However, that contract would've only paid Korver about $10 million over three years, and the 32-year-old appears set to make far more money.

On a Milwaukee team that needs shooting amidst an active offseason, landing Korver would undoubtedly improve that aspect of the roster. One of the greatest 3-point shooters in NBA history, he’s hit 42 percent of his shots from beyond the arc over the past 10 years, good for 12th in league history.

Coupling Korver with Ersan Ilyasova would give Milwaukee "two of the best floor-spacing shooters in the NBA," as BrewHoop points out.

Pistons make offer for Rudy Gay; Toronto says no

The Toronto Raptors may want to unload the hefty contract of Rudy Gay, but the Toronto Sun's Ryan Wolstat says the club turned down a trade offer from the Detroit Pistons recently. That proposal would've sent the expiring contracts of Charlie Villanueva and Rodney Stuckey to Toronto, giving the Raptors huge salary relief next offseason, but little else in return for the star player. While the high-volume, low-efficiency scorer may be overpaid, it appears Toronto wants some extra value (i.e. draft picks) from any Gay trade. The Raptors owe Gay about $36 million over the next two seasons assuming he doesn't opt out.

Manu stays in San Antonio

The Spurs will need to blow up their roster eventually, but it's not happening this summer. On Wednesday, San Antonio agreed to a two-year contract with veteran shooting guard Manu Ginobili, retaining the third piece of the franchise's beloved "Big Three" through the 2014-15 season. While terms of the deal aren't readily available, it's likely the 36-year-old will take a large pay cut following his worst season in years. Still, between this signing and the four-year deal with Tiago Splitter, San Antonio appears prepared to go to battle with a similar group next season.

Rockets not looking to trade Asik or Lin

Despite the rumors claiming the Houston Rockets want to trade Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin this offseason for extra flexibility as they pursue Dwight Howard, GM Daryl Morey said otherwise Wednesday. Speaking with Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, Morey said the club is exploring a number of scenarios to improve the roster. However, he added that Asik and Lin haven't been included in those discussions, as the Rockets plan on keeping both for the time being. When the rumors first emerged, The Dream Shake called them "premature," which appears to have been right on.
