Garrett Temple, Jon Leuer deals both have upside

Quick thoughts on two smaller deals recently consummated:

JON LEUER: Memphis secured the backup power forward on a three-year contract worth just under $3 million, according to the Memphis Flyer. That was a smart use of accounting by the Grizzlies, as they were able to get Leuer to agree to a first-year salary worth less than his qualifying offer in return for some long-term security. Leuer is a favorite of the advanced statistics community and could definitely replace Darrell Arthur's production at a fraction of the price. If not, the Grizzlies are paying less than $1 million a year for a deep bench player, so the cost is minimal. Nice move by Memphis. GRADE: A-.

GARRETT TEMPLE: The busy Wizards agreed to a one-year deal with Temple, likely for the veteran's minimum. Temple is limited offensively, but he will defend and can handle the ball in a pinch. If he starts 36 games again, the season will have been a failure, but you can do far worse at the end of your bench. GRADE: B+.
