NBA free agency: Marco Belinelli reaches 2-year deal with Spurs, per report

Marco Belinelli is heading to the defending Western Conference champions.

USA TODAY Sports

The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a two-year deal with free agent Marco Belinelli, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. The contract will pay Belinelli approximately $6 million.

Belinelli averaged 9.6 points last season for the Chicago Bulls. He shot 40% from the field and 36% from three, a disappointment after two strong seasons in New Orleans. There he averaged double-digit points in each of his two seasons and shot at least 42 percent from the floor.

The Spurs return nearly their entire team from last season, when they came within one win of the NBA title, but they may have to replace Gary Neal. San Antonio extended a qualifying offer to Neal, but they will be faced with the decision of whether to match an offer sheet if he signs one with another team.

Belinelli would give the Spurs another shooter to go along with Matt Bonner and Danny Green, who had a monster playoffs and NBA Finals in particular. The Spurs also have Kawhi Leonard on the wing, who while not a shooter, had an outstanding playoffs and should earn over 30 minutes again in his third season.

Belinelli reportedly had an offer for more money from the Cavs, but chose San Antonio instead.
