Dwight Howard free agency odds show Rockets as favorites to sign center

With the appeal of playing alongside James Harden and an up-and-coming team in Houston, the oddsmakers in Vegas feel the Rockets are the favorites to sign Howard.

Dwight Howard has visited with five possible suitors this past week: the Hawks, Lakers, Mavericks, Rockets and Warriors. As Howard weighs the pros and cons of each franchise, the oddsmakers in Las Vegas have determined Houston is the frontrunner to sign the All-Pro center.

According to Odds Shark, the Rockets have been listed at +140 to sign Howard. For those unfamiliar with betting lines, that means a bet of $100 would win $140.

Howard's most recent team, the Lakers, were given the second-best odds at +180. It's interesting that those in Vegas go against what most media members tend to think, especially given all the turmoil the franchise went through last year as they went from an NBA Finals contender to just barely earning a postseason berth in a matter of months.

The Dallas Mavericks are listed third at +300. Owner Mark Cuban seems determined to make a splash this offseason after missing out last summer.

The Atlanta Hawks are fourth at +950. Howard was born and raised in Atlanta and would fit nicely with the up-and-coming Hawks.

The Warriors are listed at +1000, giving them the lowest odds of any of the five contenders. Golden State has begun trying to clear salary cap space to land Howard, although a sign-and-trade would likely be required in order to bring D-12 to the Bay Area.
