Richard Jefferson, Brandon Rush and Andris Biedrins traded to Jazz in salary dump, according to report

The Warriors found a team willing to absorb $24 million in salary, clearing their path to signing a high-profile free agent.

The Golden State Warriors are trading Richard Jefferson and Andris Biedrins to the Utah Jazz in a salary dump, according to TNT analyst David Aldridge. Brandon Rush is also included in the package being sent to the Jazz, reports Ken Berger of CBS Sports. Utah will also receive first round picks in 2014 and 2017, as well as

The three players being sent to Utah are all on expiring contracts that will combine for $24 million in salary next season.The Warriors will also send their first round picks in the 2014 and 2017 NBA Drafts, along with unspecified future second round picks, to the Jazz in exchange for the $24 million in salary they’re taking on, according to Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Warriors’ moves cleared the path for Golden State to make a contract offer to former Denver Nuggets swingman Andre Iguodala. Both sides have reportedly agreed on a four-year, $48 million deal.

The Warriors had reportedly been “aggressively attempting” to trade for salary cap space and finally found a partner in the Jazz. Both Jefferson and Biedrins accepted player options to stay with the Warriors under big salaries prior to the free agency period beginning.

Andrew Bogut, another expiring contract that the Warriors are reportedly prepared to offer to the Los Angeles Lakersin a sign-and-trade package for Dwight Howard, was not included in Golden State’s transaction with Utah.
